YEAR 2
On Tuesday 5th June, we travelled to Shepparton Rescue and Recovery Centre. This visit strengthened our awareness and study of Environmental Day and our use of making something out of recycled, reused and reduced products. What a wealth of knowledge this place was!
What we discovered:
- It is open 7 days a week.
- Clothes or shoes that don’t fit you anymore do not need to go into the bin for landfill.
- They, together with other items, like doors, bed frames, BBQs, bikes, toys etc can be resold.
- You can build something new out of something old e.g. using an old door to build a cubby or an old bath to create a vegetable garden.
- All the rubbish in our red lid bins goes to landfill.
- It is much better for the environment if we can recycle, reuse and reduce most of our things rather than put them into landfill.
- Cardboard goes into the yellow bins for recycling.
- Important that batteries don’t go into landfill because they have chemicals in them and they are not good for us, for animals or the earth.
- Bubble wrap is not recyclable.
- Food scraps go into the green bins together with garden waste.
Remember to use the right bins when disposing of your rubbish.
Let’s look after our environment for our lifetime and for those to follow us.
Have a warm and wonderful break with your children during the holidays.
Thank You,
Mrs. Annette Moran
